THE PARTY DEPARTMENT · FROM IDEA TO PARTY
Love You 2 Pizzas!
A second birthday with a lot of heart. And a lot of pizza.
A Valentine's-adjacent second birthday practically begged for a pizza party. So I took the idea and ran with it. Possibly a little too far.
It started with a custom invitation and turned into an entire world of pizza slices, tiny hearts, red gingham, and handmade decorations.
But here's the thing: at its core, this was just a pizza party for a two-year-old. I didn't want to spend a fortune making it special. I wanted to take something simple and make it feel like something more with a little creativity, some inexpensive finds, and a lot of DIY.
I designed the invitations, cut out the garlands, made the cupcake toppers and food labels, assembled the favors, baked and decorated the cookies, designed a custom coloring sheet, and put together the entire party. Yes, even those tiny little paper hearts.
The only things I outsourced? The wine, the beer, and the pizza from Nannie Franco's. I know my limits. Occasionally.
The Details
I have a tendency to take a theme and run with it. This time, that meant handmade pizza garlands, approximately one million tiny paper hearts, pizza crown headbands, DIY cupcake toppers, homemade cookies, custom favors, and even a felt pizza game.
But not everything needed to be handmade. Valentine's plates and napkins from Target? Perfect. A $300 custom coloring poster? Absolutely not. I printed my giant coloring page at Staples for $30 and mounted it on the back of a trifold display board. Yes, like a third-grade science fair project.
A little DIY, a little Target, and a lot of unnecessary cutting and gluing. Exactly how I like it.
Worth Every Tiny Heart.
Did I need to make every garland, bake every cookie, and punch out approximately one million tiny hearts? Absolutely not.
Would I do it all again? Unfortunately, yes.
Because at the end of the day, it wasn't really about the pizza. It was about celebrating our little guy turning two.
And if that requires a handmade felt pizza with removable toppings, so be it.
